Long Research Experience

Our interdisciplinary team harbours unique expertise in traditionally distant scientific disciplines, ranging from applied mathematics, biochemistry, biophysics, molecular biology, pharmacology, photonics, physical chemistry, to molecular medicine. With extensive research experience spanning between 10 and 50 years, we boast proven track records, having published over 1000 research papers in renowned peer-reviewed scientific journals. Additionally, our team possesses expertise in business management and intellectual property protection.

Dr. Rudolf Rigler, Professor Emeritus at Karolinska Institutet and co-founder of AmyloiDia, has pioneered the field of time-resolved fluorescence fluctuation analysis and made ground-breaking contributions to Fluorescence Correlation Spectroscopy (FCS). Until the end of 2021, he held the role of CEO at AmyloiDia. Sadly, Dr Rudolf Rigler passed away on Oct 5th 2022.

Dr Ann Tiiman, Researcher at Karolinska Institutet and AmyloiDia co-founder and CEO from 2022 until 2025, is a young biochemist whose research focuses on understanding the detailed molecular mechanisms that underlie peptide/protein self-assembly in amyloid diseases. She is actively engaged in translating novel methodologies from research settings to clinical applications, paving the way for impactful advancements in patient care. She is responsible for diagnostic biomarker development.

Dr. Astrid Gräslund, Professor Emerita at Stockholm University and AmyloiDia co-founder and Chair of the Steering Board, has made significant contributions to biophysics by employing various spectroscopic techniques to enhance our comprehension of biomolecules’ structure, dynamics, interactions, and functions. A member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences since 1993, she served as Secretary of the Nobel Committee in Chemistry for 13 years. She is responsible for Diversification of applications.

Dr. Vladana Vukojević, Associate Professor of Biochemistry at Karolinska Institutet and AmyloiDia co-founder and CEO from 2025, is an experienced physical chemist with a strong interdisciplinary background and comprehensive experimental and theoretical expertise. She has significantly contributed to the advancement of fluorescence correlation spectroscopy and its application for the study of complex kinetic processes in live cells; and possesses a deep understanding of dynamical systems theory, spearheading its application in biomedicine. She is  responsible for cohesive technological advancement and strategic integration of Research & Development activities.

Dr Lars Terenius, Professor Emeritus at Karolinska Institutet, has significantly contributed to several important fields in biomedicine, such as the discovery of enkephalins and the endogenous ligands of the opioid receptor. He is a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences since 1987 and Founding Director of the Center for Molecular Medicine (CMM) at Karolinska Institutet. He is AmyloiDia co-founder and member of the Steering Board responsible for Diversification of applications.

Dr Jüri Jarvet is an accomplished physical chemist and biophysicist with extensive expertise in applying cutting-edge spectroscopy methodologies, including Fluorescence Correlation Spectroscopy (FCS), Circular Dichroism (CD), and Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR), to elucidate peptide structure, dynamics and their self-assembly into molecular aggregates. He works on advanced applications of emerging spectroscopic technologies. He is AmyloiDia co-founder and member of the Steering Board responsible for Diversification of applications.

Dr Sebastian Wärmländer is an experienced biophysicist focusing on understanding the detailed molecular mechanisms that underlie peptide/protein self-assembly and amyloid formation, using advanced biophysical techniques such as Fluorescence Correlation Spectroscopy (FCS), Circular Dichroism (CD), and Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR). He works on advanced applications of emerging spectroscopic technologies. He is AmyloiDia co-founder and member of the Steering Board responsible for Diversification of applications.

Dr Aleksandar Krmpot, is an experienced physicist specializing in optics, photonics, metrology, and laser spectroscopy applications. He has designed and constructed the prototype microscope systems for massively parallel fluorescence correlation spectroscopy integrated with fluorescence lifetime imaging (mpFCS/FLIM) and for massively parallel fluorescence cross-correlation spectroscopy (mpFCCS) and consistently strives to advance instrument design. He is responsible for Technology advancement and instrumentation design.

Dr Stanko Nikolić, is a young physicist with considerable experience in handling large datasets. He has developed the software for data acquisition, fast calculation of auto- and cross-correlation curves by parallel signal processing using a Graphic Processing Unit (GPU) and interfaces for data presentation and visualisation. He is actively engaged in integrating machine learning algorithms into data analysis workflows, which improves the efficiency and accuracy of scientific interpretations. He is responsible for Software development.

Dr Sho Oasa, is a young biologist with considerable experience in biophysics, including a strong expertise in fluorescence microscopy techniques and fluorescence correlation spectroscopy; molecular and cell biology. His research focuses on cell-based pharmacotherapeutics testing. Providing valuable insights into the cellular responses to drugs plays a critical role in drug discovery, safety assessment, and development of personalized medicine, paving the way for the development of safer and more effective therapeutics. He is responsible for Cell-based pharmacotherapeutics testing development.

Johann Rigler, MSc Eng, BSc Econ, MSc Mgm, EPA, is an experienced European Patent Attorney responsible for legal matters.
